Make sure there are enough diapers/pull-ups in your child’s cubby – we want to help your child be successful while potty training! We will do our best to notify you if we are running low, however, it doesn’t hurt to check in every so often.

Make sure your child has a spare change of clothing in his or her cubby – SEE promotes independent exploration and FUN! The number one sign that your child had a great day is if they leave school messier than they came! However, your child may have become very excited at the water table or they had a blast painting (literally!).  For instances like these, a full set of clothing can be stored in their cubby.  Please also keep in mind, if a shirt, etc. goes home in a bag, please have a replacement in their backpack for the next day.

Label, Label, Label – LABEL EVERYTHING! This helps our teachers to return the proper items and clothing to the correct families.  Every boy has a Thomas the Train shirt and girls tend to wear pink everyday, you can imagine the potential mix-ups! Sharpie Markers are great and so are personalized stickers.  Check out this website for more options: www.namebubbles.com, they even claim that the stickers are laundry proof!

We still go outside in the wintertime – During the frigid months of winter, we often like to explore the newly fallen snow!  Please send your child with head-to-toe winter gear when the time comes to say good-bye to fall and hello to winter.  Keeping an extra set of snow pants, gloves, a hat, and boots at school is a good idea, but not necessary.

We take full advantage of the summer sun – We have a beautiful shady outdoor space, but the sun always finds a way to shine on us!  Please apply sun block before school each day or ask a teacher at the door to borrow some of ours! Teachers will re-apply sun block for the children who stay for the full day.  However, if you would like your child to use another sun block, please send in a well-labeled bottle with your child’s full name.

We love to encourage healthy eating habits – Please send in heathy and nutritious snacks and lunches for your child. This helps to promote healthy eating to our students. We are also very conscious of food allergies, and we will always make this our first priority when doing food related projects that may go along with our curriculum topics.

We are a Peanut/Tree Nut Free Preschool

Peanut and Tree Nut allergies are very serious.  We enforce this school wide rule to decrease the chances of a severe allergic reaction occurring.  If your child’s diet consists of only peanut butter, there are a few options to consider that are quite similar to peanut butter and your child may not even notice the difference! Sunflower Seed Butter and Soy Nut Butter are two wonderful alternatives that can be found at your local supermarket!

What to do if…

Your child doesn’t want you to leave at drop-off – One really important tip to remember is the longer you linger in the classroom while your child is clinging to you, the harder it will be for you to leave and the harder it will be for your child to let you go.  There is a good way to make your departure successful and easy.  We have a “goodbye game” that we can provide for you to use to make these drop-offs easier on both you and your child. This game is especially great for the child who continually asks for one more hug, and one more hug, and one more hug, and so on. Have your child reach into the envelope and pull out a number; this number is how many more hugs/kisses he or she will get before you leave.

You miss your child – Please feel free to call us and we can give you an update on your child’s day.

Your child misses you – Send your child with a laminated picture of the family.  When your child misses you, he or she can look at the picture.  This will help your child feel at ease.

You forget your child’s lunch on the kitchen counter – There is a Dunkin’ Donuts, Trader Joe’s and a Market Basket located directly across the street.  Please remember we are a nut-free school.

You are running 15 minutes late and SEE closes at 3:30 – The Director or teacher will always wait until every child is safely picked up.  A phone call is helpful so we know you are ok and there wasn’t a case of miscommunication (it happens more often than you think!).  According to our parent handbook, for each minute beyond your child’s scheduled pick-up time you will be charged $1/minute.  Please see us if you have any questions or concerns!

You are curious about your child’s day – We have an open-door policy that states that parents can stop in to observe their child at any time he or she is present (prior notification is appreciated)!  You can also schedule a conference with your child’s teacher when it is convenient for you.

You want to volunteer at our school – SEE loves parent volunteers!!! Please see us for extra assistance preparing classroom materials, organizing toys, etc. And THANK YOU in advance!

You need advice – SEE’s director and highly qualified teachers are always available to answer your questions and provide advice.  Feel free to stop in the office or schedule a conference with your child’s teacher!

You have a suggestion or comment – If the director is available, please feel free to stop by the office! We LOVE and value suggestions!
